    Chandeluer trip

First and foremost the crew of the VI was top notch!! Food was awesome and those 3 guys busted their tails.

We arrived at the islands about 530am with rain in the forecast. Watched the radar and decided to try it for a bit. I hung a trout on my second cast and thought it was going to be on! Wife and I caught 3 or 4 more on the first drift and kept only one. Made the same drift again and zeroed so we moved. One more trout and a red.

Started the boat for another drift and see clouds building to the south.

Radio call says no lighting but 12 miles on storm. Time to haul ass. It rained (for the 13th day in a row apparently) for about 4 hours. The deckhand had to swim to each skiff and bail out the hulls.

We ate some lunch and looked at the maps and decided to run south about 10 miles. Much cleaner water and we caught a few more reds and a flounder.

Ended day one with prime rib and baked taters.

Day 2 came quick and we started at the same spot. Beat that water to death and had 2 reds and some dink trout. I tried to call father in law and cousin to see of they were on fish and got no answer.

We headed back south and found them parked together with a fish on. Our arrival ended their run and they had boxed 8. Ran even further down the chain and found a reef with some movement on one end. 2 more reds and a flounder and make the 30 minute run for lunch.

About half way we see a huge group of birds and decide to see what's in them. As luck would have it....skip jack. Wife gets one to the boat just as a shark about 8 feet tries to eat it off the hook!!

That afternoon captain says better weather has caused good water north so we moved the entire show about 45 minutes. The only problem was the other 2 or 3 boats up there. Skiffs everywhere!!

Somehow we found a school about 430 or 5 and started catching fish pretty good. Most in the 15 inch range which we let go. Did manage a 22 1/2, one red and 10 or 12 more solid fish.

We had also ran out of beer and in Heat fashion, drank what the last group left. Momma not happy with the pony cans

All all a GREAT trip and looking at dates for another. Best of all was my son spending 3 days with my dad. Without a fish that was worth the price of admission in itself

Wife drank more shiner than rum punch. Effed up the beer math. It called for desperate measures

They didn't care where you went. Cast netted bait was mullet which caught sharks. Cousin did get spooled at the cut on mullet

I'm beginning to dislike vodka. Seems like every time I get into some, the bottle gets turned up longer than it should when mixing a drink. Sunday night was a prime example. Monday was rough.

    Very nice trip QB.
    Thanks,

I just overdo it with vodka. Other liquors not so much. I guess they bite too much for my taste. I was accused of passing out on the group Sunday night.
    Thanks,

Awesome trip that looks like so much fun. I try to get my dad and boys put together as much as possible. Unfortunately my dad is very out of shape so it is hard to do much. We head to Canada in August for a fishing/bear hunting trip.

Bourbon has been kicking my ass lately. I used to hold my own on it but not so much for some reason. I have been working out more and eating less so that seems to hammer me.

Could have been the moon. It wasn't just us cause all the skiffs did a lot of moving. The fish appeared to be picky. Presentation was key!

On the vodka, Mrs. QB saw Autos cucumber infused recipe in last month's Rachel ray magazine. I think we're gonna try it with some cucumber from the garden

Looks like fun. I want to do that 1 year. Seems like they would equip those skiffs with an automatic bilge pump for situations like that. I would think that happens pretty often.
