How are they getting these numbers and determining one shot stops? Is it based on gel penetration alone?

    Questions would be-

    What constitutes a stop?
Politicians, Police and Drug Cartels all agree, the War On Drugs (War on Freedom) is great for business.

Technically, if the bad guy gets scared and runs away, that's a stop.

If you want to see terminal ballistics of .380 on an actual human hand CLICKY CLICKY.

Keep your paws clear of the muzzle and your finger off the trigger when racking sub-compacts, kids.

Everything I have read has been poor on penetration in 380, except FMJ, they claim thru penetration 12" +

I have 2 380's, an old 19rd PT58S and a Mustang, neither leave the house, I just do not have the confidence in the round.

The story behind the photo I linked to would seem to agree with that. The bullet, after passing through the knuckle of the hand, bounced off a jacket hanging on the wall. The finger bone and hand skin took all the energy out of the bullet.

They still don't make anything more potent that is as easy to carry as a .380 auto.
I'd love to carry a 10mm all the time but often times dress dictates that as not possible, so a gun in hand is better than the gun at home.

100 years ago folks thought .22short was enough for personal protection carry, today it seems if you can't drop a charging moose you ain't ****.
Course I guess 100 years ago they didn't have MS13, drug cranked psychos and what have you tear assing their way around the country, or at least not in the numbers we do now.
*shrug* I carry my .380 daily I don't feel under gunned for 99% of potential situations I can see myself getting into.

    Re: .380 Stats

The wound I'm the photo appears to be caused as much by expanding gasses as the actual projectile.

380's are thug guns. Shoot a homie and make him a crip on a wheelchair.

If I am in a gun fight I want stopping power. 45 or 40SW. Buddy at school, car jacked and popped 5 times with a 9mm and lived. Reason I stopped carrying a 9!

The .380 is good enough for 007. Many a German officer carried a 9mm Kurtz.

Obviously you need to change the way you dress.

LOL k. When you've gotta wear slacks and a tucked in shirt your pretty much limited to pocket carry.

And all those are great guns, but they aren't as small or as easy to conceal as the P3AT, I wouldn't call any of them "Pocket guns" while the P3AT is for sure!

I don't like pocket carry. A crossbreed holster with the shirt in = concealed.

Stopping power is a myth. Gunshots can only kill you one of two ways - by destroying the nervous system with a brain or spine shot or by catastrophic damage to the circulatory system with a heart shot or through blood loss.
